Use the same foundation

Start with helpful, crawlable, well-structured content. Google’s 2026 guidance on generative AI features explicitly says established SEO best practices still matter; AI-search optimization is not a license to replace fundamentals with special formatting hacks.

Make answers extractable

Put the main answer near the start of a section, use headings that describe the real question, keep definitions precise and support claims with sources. This improves human scanning too, which is a good sign that the optimization is not merely cosmetic.

Add non-commodity value

Original data, direct experience, first-party examples, unique synthesis, proprietary tools and clearly attributable expertise are harder to replace with a generic answer. That is strategically useful in both search results and answer engines.

Keep entities unambiguous

Use consistent names for products, people, organizations and concepts. Explain relationships in plain language instead of assuming the reader—or a retrieval system—will infer them.

Measure without overclaiming

Track visibility and citations where tools can observe them, but do not treat every answer-engine appearance as equivalent to a click or conversion. Connect visibility metrics back to business outcomes.
